What is this Test?
A Holter monitor is a portable, battery-operated ECG device worn continuously for 24–48 hours. It captures heart rhythm throughout the day and night, including during sleep and activity.
Purpose
Detects intermittent arrhythmias not present during a standard ECG, diagnoses unexplained palpitations, dizziness, or fainting, evaluates the effectiveness of anti-arrhythmic medications, and monitors pacemaker function.
How It Works
Electrodes are attached to the chest and connected to a small recording device worn on a belt or shoulder strap. You keep a diary of activities and symptoms. After 24 hours, the device is returned and the recording is analysed by a cardiologist for any rhythm abnormalities.
How to Prepare
Avoid bathing during the monitoring period to keep the device dry. Wear a loose shirt. Continue normal daily activities for an accurate recording.
